Experience Summary

Ms. Velez is a registered Patent Agent who has researched, analyzed, prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications, which have resulted in U.S. Patents in a variety of technological fields.  She routinely develops detail-oriented drawings and written specifications to capture an applicant’s invention.  She has successfully communicated complex technical features, both verbally and in writing, to differentiate novel features for obtaining a U.S. patent. 

Prior to working as a registered Patent Agent, Ms. Velez served as a Patent Examiner for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for six years.  As a Patent Examiner, she conducted all aspects of patent evaluation, including applied in-depth radio frequency (RF) communications technology and statutory and precedent law for granting exclusive rights to a patent.  She has extensive knowledge of both U.S. and International patents, and has written opinions conveying the USPTO’s position regarding patentability to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences. 

Ms. Velez worked as an Electronics Engineer for the United States General Services Administration (GSA) in Washington, D.C. prior to becoming a Patent Examiner and is currently a member of the Louisiana State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
