Experience Summary
Mr. Chuan is a second year associate attorney with an emphasis in intellectual property matters and business litigation. He has handled both litigation and transactional work regarding a wide array of issues, including, but not limited to, intellectual property, business disputes, misappropriation of trade secrets, protection of proprietary rights, real property, disputes under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, employment law, and other related matters.
Prior to studying law, Mr. Chuan received a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as a minor in Asia-Pacific Studies from the University of California, San Diego. Before joining the Patel Law Firm, he worked as an Assistant Programmer for the System Development and Design Corporation for eight years.
Mr. Chuan has experience with litigating civil matters in both the California State Court and Ninth Circuit Federal Court systems, and is admitted to the Bar of the Central District of California.
Patent, Trademark & Copyright Prosecution
Mr. Chuan routinely handles aspects of the application process for trademark and patent registration. He has participated in the successful prosecution of many patents and trademarks before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as trademark appeals before the Trademark Trial and Appeals Board.
He also has experience in prosecuting international trademark applications through the Madrid System and international patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty.
Intellectual Property Litigation
Mr. Chuan, as an associate, participates in aggressively prosecuting and defending intellectual property lawsuits and is familiar with many aspects of patent, trademark, and copyright law, in addition to California State and Federal Civil Procedure.
Mr. Chuan is also familiar with cyber squatting issues and domain name dispute resolution procedures, and has contributed to the successful resolution of domain name disputes before the World Intellectual Property Office.
